Celebrate Independence Day with
The San Antonio Municipal Band

Kick off fourth of July weekend at the Witte Museum! Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, enjoy a hamburger and milkshake from Cheesy Jane's and relax in the Witte courtyard to the sounds of The San Antonio Municipal Band. Beat the Heat Mondays
Admission only $5 per person every Monday July 6 - September 7, 2009!
As the mercury is rising during San Antonio’s record-breaking summer heat, the Witte Museum is dropping prices! Head through the doors of the cool Witte Museum for Beat the Heat Mondays, where general admission is only $5 per person every Monday beginning July 6 through Labor Day, Sept. 7. Summer Adventure Club

Summer Adventure Club

Monday - Friday, July 6 - July 31 

Summer Adventure Club at the Witte Museum is a great way for kids, grades 1-2 & 3-5, to explore the people, environment, science and history of this incredible place we call South Texas. Also, investigate the mystery of time in the summer exhibit Playing with Time.

All sessions are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost per week is $180 for museum members and $230 for non-members. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to hold reservations. Limited, need-based scholarships are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Scholarships are generously provided by USAA Federal Savings Bank. Hard Bop Jazz

Amazing Skies

Amazing Skies is coming to the Witte!

Sunday, July 19, 12noon - 5pm

Experience outer space right in our back yard! This exciting event will feature NASA astronauts, hands-on activities, space exhibits and feature presentations for the whole family. Meet former NASA Astronaut Rick Hieb and John Blaha, shoot model rockets and ride the Rockit Rider in this informative and exciting atmosphere. Free with museum admission. A Night at the Witte Camp-In:
The Time is Right!


Friday evenings, June 26-September 25

Playing with Time

Playing with Time is a fun and exciting exhibit that all ages can enjoy. Using high speed cameras and time-lapse photography, you can control time and see the amazing unseen world that changes too quickly or too slowly to perceive naturally.

Breathing Places:
History of San Antonio Parks

Focus Gallery

San Antonio, founded by the Spanish in 1718, traces its parks’ legacy to the early 1730s when the Spanish government granted public lands to the municipality. Utilizing historical photographs, maps, paintings and original drawings, Breathing Places provides an in-depth look at the 280 year legacy and the evolution of San Antonio’s parks and recreation system by illustrating the transition of the city’s public spaces from Spanish plazas to large, natural areas.

Queens and Crowns:  Fiesta’s Royal Traditions

This year’s Fiesta exhibit honors the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Alamo. The highlight of the exhibit, and the basis for the Witte’s 2009 Fiesta pin, is the cream silk dress and blue velvet train worn by Helena Guenther, Queen of the Court of Carnival of Flowers in 1911—the oldest royal robes in the Witte Museum Collection. The exhibit also highlights the 60th anniversary of Miss Fiesta, which began in 1949. News Release

Time is of the essence! Join us for an exploration of time elements through hands-on activities for the entire family. Then head to the Playing with Time exhibit and examine sights that are too fast or too slow for the human eye to see including popping corn kernels, flowers blooming, seeds sprouting, light from space and growing old. Send in the Clowns!

The Jolly Joeys are back to celebrate National Clown Week with a fun-filled family day. Spend the afternoon with the San Antonio clown troupe, the Jolly Joeys and get your face painted, design your own clown hat, create balloon animals and enjoy the clown shows! The Search for a Chili Queen

The time is the 1880s, the place is San Antonio and the search is for a chili queen. Join award-winning author Marian Martinello as she reconstructs her detective work by explaining the questions she asked, sources she consulted and the clues she uncovered in 19th century photographs, artifacts and other primary sources.
