Witte Museum Announces 2008 Annual Fiesta Exhibit SAN ANTONIO—The Witte Museum presents Fiesta Dances: Ballets, Polkas and Bailes, a showcase of dance inspired collections. Fiesta Dances will open in conjunction with San Antonio's annual 10-day celebration, Fiesta®, on April 17 and be on view through September 1, 2008 in the Betty Coates Textile Gallery. Fiesta Dances is free with museum admission. This year's Fiesta exhibition portrays the variety and importance of dance traditions enjoyed throughout Fiesta with elaborate dance costumes and photographs from royal balls, to folk dances, square dances, and dancing in the streets. Included in the exhibition are several Order of the Alamo gowns and trains from the Witte collection whose themes represent dances from Carnival to ballet. Also on view is the train worn by Ruth Ann Davis, Princess of Ethereal Splendor in the 1955 Court of Enchanted Dance. This royal robe is embellished with sequined pink ballerinas and is the inspiration for the Witte Museum's 2008 official Fiesta pin, available for purchase in the Museum Store. Gowns from the 2008 Fiesta royalty such as Miss Fiesta, Queen of Soul, La Reina de la Feria de las Flores, Miss Teen Queen, and Queen of the San Antonio Charro Association will be on display. Fiesta Dances is generously supported by the Fiesta San Antonio Commission, Inc. For more information call 210.357.1900 or visit www.wittemuseum.org. ### |
