The Community as Curator
September 16, 2006 - August 8, 2007

Take a walk down memory lane and see what objects spark recollections from your years of visiting the Witte! For the past several months, the Witte Museum called upon the public to curate an exhibit celebrating the 80 th anniversary and on September 16 the Witte Museum unveils Gems of the Collection: Community as Curator, a selection of objects chosen by museum members, supporters and the public.

The final selections constitute the community's favorite and most memorable artifacts, including paintings, gems, minerals, textiles, Texas furniture, art, Fiesta gowns and other objects from the Witte's vast permanent collections, creating an exhibition of deeply personal perspectives. Gems of the Collection is free with museum admission.

The doors to the Witte Museum opened to the public on October 8, 1926, becoming San Antonio's first public museum. This October the Witte Museum will celebrate 80 years of providing educational exhibits and events to the community of San Antonio and South Texas.

Gems of the Collection is generously supported by Marcia and Otto Koehler Foundation and G.A.C. Halff Foundation.
