The Anthropology Collection consists primarily of artifacts such as pottery, basketry, clothing, weapons and tools representing the Indian people of North America. Many of the artifacts in the collection were collected by the 19th century U.S. Army troops. The Anthropology Collection also includes archeological material collected throughout Texas by the Witte Museum and other Texas archeologists. The Witte Museum was one of the first institutions to conduct excavations in the Lower Pecos Canyon Lands and Big Bend.
