Sensory Saturday at the Witte invites individuals and families with disabilities or sensory processing differences to explore a section of the museum in an extra-accessible and comfortable environment. This special before-hours event features:
- A welcoming, less crowded environment
- Light, sound and distraction reduction
- A designated “Chill Zone” quiet space in the Will Smith Classroom
- A designated eating area
- Earplugs, sunglasses and fidget toys available at the Walker Admissions Desk
- Script/story for parents to prepare their participant
- Special signage placed throughout to inform families what to expect in a space (including lights, music changes)
- Extra sensory-friendly activities:
- Staying Alive Floor Demonstrations in the Kathleen and Curtis Gunn Gallery
- Exploring Pelts Demonstration in SWBC Live Lab
- Bubble Activity in the Texas Wild Gardens
- Dino Excavation Activity in John R. and Greli N. Less Charitable Trust Science and Nature Courtyard
General Admission is required for this event, Staying Alive: Animal Defenses tickets needed to participate in certain activities.
