Ready for an evening of creativity, conversation and a touch of adventure? Explore history through art at the Witte Museum’s Cowboys on Canvas!

Did you know that one in four cowboys who went up the trails was Black? Discover their enduring legacy through firsthand accounts and artifacts, then create your own watercolor study inspired by firsthand accounts in the Witte exhibition, Black Cowboys: An American Story.

Join the Witte team and San Antonio-based artist Chantia “Tia” Bailey, whose work focuses on social realism, capturing the beauty, strength and complexity of Black communities. Tia’s artistry invites connection through storytelling, and her expertise will guide you as you create paintings depicting the people and historical artifacts from the Witte’s exhibition.
