Book an Exclusive Encounter and get Museum General Admission, access to Staying Alive: Animal Defenses and a private, up-close live animal experience led by a Little Ray’s Animal Expert.
Each encounter includes a live demonstration with one of the exhibition’s featured animals and time to ask questions with a trained educator. You won’t want to miss the chance to feed a snake, play with an armadillo or meet a sloth!
JJ THE SLOTH
Saturdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m.
$350 for up to 6 people

Step into JJ the Sloth’s habitat for a rare, behind-the-scenes encounter. Learn how slowness helps sloths survive in the wild and, if he chooses, observe JJ up close as he moves, climbs or eats. This one-of-a-kind opportunity takes place inside JJ’s habitat.
Note: These encounters are all unique, as JJ the Sloth will decide his comfort level on eating and touching. For JJ’s health, his enclosure is kept very humid and muddy to simulate his natural habitat.
SNAKE FEEDING
Mondays at 4 p.m.
$300 for up to 6 people

Watch a live feeding and observe a snake’s stealthy strategy in action. This encounter features personalized, up-close demonstrations with one of the exhibition’s snakes outside of its habitat and time to ask questions with the animal expert. This experience is perfect for reptile fans and curious minds alike!
Note: This experience showcases this animals’ pure instinct when capturing prey!
SMALL ANIMAL
Wednesdays and Fridays at 4 p.m.
$250 for up to 6 people
45 minutes
Get face-to-face with one of our featured small animals—like an armadillo, hedgehog or lizard—and discover their wild survival strategies. These animals are brought out by an animal expert, giving you the chance to ask questions and experience animal textures, behavior and movement up close.
Note: These encounters are all unique, as each animal will determine their comfort level on play and engagement.
Please note that Exclusive Encounters: Exploring Animal Defenses are subject to change dependent on the animals’ availability and weather conditions. There is no guarantee an animal will choose to be active in a presentation and participate.
We require you to follow all guidelines and instructions given by an Animal Care Expert during the entirety of this presentation.
Refund Policy: Cancellations must be made at a minimum of 10 days prior to receiving the Exclusive Encounter to receive a full refund. Cancellations made after the 10-day minimum are non-refundable.
Exclusive Encounters may be cancelled due to animal availability. If an Exclusive Encounter is cancelled by the Witte Museum, a full refund will be issued.
If a participant does not arrive for the Exclusive Encounter before their program begins, and therefore misses the Exclusive Encounter, their ticket cost will not be refunded.
For the safety of our visitors and our animals, Exclusive Encounters may be cancelled at any stage during the program for any reason.
Exclusive Encounters must be paid in advance to reserve your reservation. Please note that Exclusive Encounters are not eligible for member discounts.
