Fiesta Makes a Splash

Look to the water and find a flow of inspiration with Fiesta Makes a Splash. This year’s annual Fiesta® exhibition showcases extravagant gowns, trains and formalwear of Order of the Alamo royalty that draw inspiration from waters around the world, from rivers to oceans.

Over the past 116 years, many coronation robes have depicted water’s timeless beauty and vitality. This exhibition celebrates our enduring connection to water, showcasing the stunning artistry and craftsmanship woven into each graceful train and shimmering gown. From the 1941 shimmering gold lamé Queen of the Court of Legends gown to the blue and gold corals on the train of the 2013 Duchess of Glories of the Sea, you’ll explore waterways around the world that showcase this essential element in these stunning works of art.

This year’s Witte medal was inspired by the train worn by Nancy Sprigg Roe, the Duchess of the Rolling Seas in the 1953 Court of the Opera. The Duchess’ coronation robe, on display in the exhibition, features the ill-fated ship of lore, the Flying Dutchman, surrounded by silver seagulls, starfish, seahorses and an octopus.
