Fill your winter break with wonder at the Witte Museum

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (December 13, 2023) – Wonder awaits you at the Witte during the 2023 winter break. Entertain your families and visitors with special exhibitions, such as Explore Your World. Experience Texas through art and artifacts in Mi Cultura and A State of Exploration. Spend a day discovering Texas dinosaurs, wildlife and history. With vast galleries and gardens to explore, a visit to the Witte will be a highlight of your winter break. Plan your visit and reserve tickets online at WitteMuseum.org.

There’s always something new to explore and discover at the Witte Museum. Here are just a few of the new experiences that await you.

Explore Your World, presented by Traylor Ranches, has 19 hands-on exhibits where explorers of all ages can play games and solve puzzles to learn how both traditional mapping and the latest technologies help us chart the world from sea to space. As you hone your navigation skills, examine historical maps of Texas and build your own San Antonio de Bejár in the early 1700s, following the Spanish model to place Mission San Antonio de Valero, Main Plaza, San Fernando Church and other key landmarks.

Experience Texas’ iconic habitats—from the tropics of South Texas to the deserts and mountains of West Texas in A State of Exploration, a special exhibition featuring artifacts and artwork from the Witte Museum collection. Take in the rarely seen natural history specimens and artwork and then spend some time relaxing in the Explorers’ Corner, a place to practice sketching and journaling with a collection of books that all ages can enjoy.

Also on display is the widely acclaimed exhibition Mi Cultura—Bringing Shadows Into the Light, presented by the Sally and Charlie Cheever Foundation . Explore life in San Antonio through the photography of Al Rendón. Well-known for his portraits of Selena, rock & roll concerts and charreada competitors, Rendón has photographed Tejano culture in South Texas for decades. This exhibition presents many of his iconic photographs, some of which are included in the Smithsonian collection, along with rarely-seen photos from Rendón’s remarkable and expansive career. The re-creation of a darkroom where you can explore the process used to develop photographs is a highlight.

In addition to the special exhibitions, visit the permanent galleries where you can step into Texas Deep Time as you encounter the dinosaurs that once roamed this land, discover the lifeways of those who lived here for thousands of years and experience the legendary history of the state. Visit Texas Wild and see the incredible diversity of wildlife across Texas, and participate in four floors of interactive activities in the H-E-B Body Adventure.

The Witte Museum is open daily during the 2023 Winter Break, with the exception Christmas Day. For operating hours and tickets, visit WitteMuseum.org.
