Let’s Fiesta® safely, San Antonio, at the Witte Museum’s new Fiesta exhibition, Te Amo Fiesta (I Love You, Fiesta). In 2020, we all missed the much-loved San Antonio tradition that holds more than 100 events over a 10-day period. This spring, rediscover everything we love about Fiesta from the royalty and parades to the Fiesta medals and beyond—only at the Witte Museum.
A beloved tradition dating back 130 years to the first Battle of Flowers Parade in 1891, Fiesta has been a true staple of the City of San Antonio. What is it about this annual celebration people love so much? Is it a love for chicken-on-a-stick, oysters, tacos, turkey legs and other delicious foods that keep people coming back? Or is it the music, dancing and crowds that fill the streets and plazas of old San Anton? Perhaps it is the historic parade traditions that draw hundreds of thousands of people. Or maybe it could be the glitz and glamour of Fiesta royalty parading downtown as revelers shout, “show me your shoes!”
No matter the cause, Fiesta has and always will be an important part of our community. The Witte Museum invites all to come explore what makes Fiesta so treasured in this special exhibition, Te Amo Fiesta. Discover personal stories from the official and “unofficial” Fiesta royalty that showcase what Fiesta truly means to them. Go beyond the crown to learn the process of how anyone, including you, can become a part of Fiesta royalty. Measure the impact of Fiesta, the annual “party with a purpose” that is organized and staffed by thousands of volunteers for more than 100 non-profit organizations. The money raised by these organizations supports numerous educational and service-based programs throughout San Antonio. Share your thoughts about what makes Fiesta so special.
Te Amo Fiesta features all nine official Fiesta royals including Miss Fiesta, Charro Queen, Queen of Soul. There will even be a few unofficial royals like El Rey Fido and so much you don’t want miss. Beneath the swaying papel picado and amidst colorful confetti, live the magic of the Fiesta we all missed in 2020.
Te Amo Fiesta is made possible in part by a generous grant from the Fiesta San Antonio Commission TM
